Four steps, about ten minutes, once

After this, the whole thing is one icon and one button. There is no menu structure to learn, no wake word to remember, and no settings you have to get right before it becomes useful.

The setup

What you do once

Create the account

An email and a password. Then the first name Frankie should call you, a mobile number so reminders can reach you, the languages you speak, and your time zone so “tomorrow morning” means the right thing.

Save the people who matter

Family, friends, colleagues, the doctor, the plumber, the supplier. Numbers, emails, addresses, and how each one relates to you. This is what turns “text my daughter” into an actual message to an actual person.

Teach it your voice

Three short lines read out loud, once for each language you speak. Frankie keeps a set of numbers and throws the recordings away. Now voice lock can refuse instructions from anyone else in the room. Optional, and reversible at any time.

Put it on the phone

Install the free FrankieGPT app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in once. Or open the site in the phone browser and choose add to home screen. Either way it opens like a normal app from then on.

Then what

What using it actually looks like

You press the button and say what you want, in whatever words come out. There is no correct phrasing. If you get halfway through and change your mind, say so, and Frankie follows.

It answers out loud

In a natural voice, at a pace you can follow, and it handles interruption. You do not have to wait politely for it to finish a paragraph you already understood.

It remembers

Not just within one conversation. Next week, when you ask what the pharmacy said, it knows. That is the difference between an assistant and a search box that talks.

It reaches the real world

Reminders arrive as a text message or a spoken phone call. Its own email address takes forwarded documents. Messages you write to other people open in your own apps so you press send yourself.

It grows without getting harder

A calendar is in progress, along with wider language support and more tools that let Frankie act rather than just answer. None of that changes the interface, because the interface is a conversation. New abilities simply mean there is more you can ask for.

About getting started

Do I need to download an app?

There is a free FrankieGPT app for iPhone and Android, and it is the easiest way to keep Frankie one tap away. You can also use it in the browser on any phone, tablet, or computer, and add it to the home screen from there. It is the same account and the same Frankie either way.

How long does setup take?

About ten minutes, and most of that is adding the people you want Frankie to know. The account itself is an email, a password, a first name, a mobile number for reminders, and a time zone.

Do I have to teach it my voice?

Only if you want voice lock, which stops anyone else giving it spoken instructions. It is three short lines read aloud, once per language you speak. You can skip it and add it later, and you can delete the prints whenever you like.

What if the internet drops?

The interface is cached, so it opens and tells you plainly that it is offline rather than showing a broken page. Conversations resume when the connection comes back.

Can somebody else set it up for me?

Yes, and that is common. Someone creates the account, adds the contacts, and hands over a phone with one icon on it. Anything they set can be changed later from Settings.
